The following duties and responsibilities reflect the expectations of the position of the Clinical Dietitian. This is complemented and further explained in the role objectives set by the organization. The following duties can be applicable to one or several assigned clinics within the region.

 

DEFINITION OF REPORTING LINES

  • Clinical Dietitian is accountable towards the Direct Manager with regards to meeting clinic objectives including administrative, business, medical and operational outcomes
  • Clinical Dietitian is accountable towards the Function Head with regards to ensuring standards of care and quality management, further specified below
  • Annual performance evaluation, including training and development needs, is a shared responsibility between the Direct Manager and Function Head towards the Clinical Dietitian

 

ROLE WITHIN THE MULTIDISCIPLINARY TEAM (MDT)

  • Aim to cultivate nutrition care that is patient-centric, evidence-based and integrated within Diaverum care delivery system
  • Work in collaboration with the MDT and patients to support patients to navigate their disease, disease complications, dialysis treatment and adherence to medical prescriptions (e.g. compliance to attendance, duration and medication) as well as required lifestyle changes
  • Initiate and take lead in managing nutrition and preventive care projects in coordination and alignment with Head of Nutrition Care and other strategic departmental and organizational projects as appropriate
  • Point of contact in the clinic for medical, nursing, operations and other functions with all matters concerning the nutrition care of patients

 

NUTRITIONAL/MEDICAL/CLINICAL PERFORMANCE

  • Ensure effective MNT, health promotion, and lifestyle management supporting hemodialysis patients with different demographic background (gender, age, educational level), medical history and psychosocial status
  • Ensure implementation of a continuous, accurate and effective Nutrition Care Process (NCP) for all patients. NCP includes screening, assessment, diagnosis, intervention/counselling, documentation, monitoring and evaluation
  • Manage the set clinical parameters to accurately measure, monitor and evaluate all aspects of nutrition care in accordance to national and international standards and guidelines in renal care and chronic disease management
  • Manage foodservice to ensure food safety, quality, and order administration as part of continuously monitoring and enhancing patient meal experience (e.g. Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points – HACCP)
  • Utilize clinical knowledge and counselling skills to make a positive difference in patients’ quality of life
  • Engage and actively participate in dietetic research led by the nutrition care department

 

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

  • Understand and comply with policies and procedures related to scope of care, patient confidentiality/ rights, infection control, facility management and safety, as well adhering to time/attendance and dress code requirements
  • Adhere to current policies and procedures and future updates in Diaverum including quality standards such as Joint Commission International (JCI) and/or Saudi Central Board for Accreditation of Healthcare Institutions (CBAHI), medical KPIs as well as all local regulatory requirements governing nutrition care
  • Monitor compliance according to all nutrition care policies and procedures and country regulations

 

QUALITY MANAGEMENT

  • Ensure accurate and complete documentation of all aspects related to patient care management such as Monthly Care Plans (MCPs), nutritional follow up and in-clinic referrals
  • Work closely with Head of Nutrition Care, Clinic Medical Director, Clinic Team and Operation managements in achieving overall quality goals and nutritional parameters.
  • Participate in nutrition care department meetings, clinic  management meetings including quarterly management review (QMR) and monthly business review meetings (MBR)
  • Participate in country and clinic development initiatives (projects) while ensuring alignment with Diaverum nutrition care department strategy and vision

 

CLINICAL DIETITIAN LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT

  • Participate and engage in all provided training programs and continuous professional development of nutrition care
  • Participate in the orientation and induction of new members of Clinical Dietitians as applicable
  • Participate in self and other’s education, training and development including assigned clinical dietitians interns as applicable

 

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor Degree in Clinical Dietitian
  • Master’s degree in Nutrition preferred
  • Renal Clinical specialty strongly desired
