PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Infection Control Practitioner (ICP) is responsible for implementing and overseeing infection control activities across all Diaverum clinics under the direction of the Infection Control Specialist. This role ensures continuous surveillance of clinic and laboratory data to identify and monitor healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and potential outbreaks.

Key responsibilities include investigating disease outbreaks, maintaining accurate infection control records, and ensuring compliance with infection prevention policies. The ICP plays a vital role in staff education by developing and delivering infection control training programs, including orientation for new employees. Additionally, the role contributes to quality improvement initiatives, risk assessments, and policy development to strengthen infection prevention and control practices across all Diaverum clinics.

 

KEY RESULT AREAS

  • Assume responsibility for the coordination of activities related to Infection Control as directed by Infection Control Specialist

  • Assume responsibility in conjunction with the Infection Control Specialist, for the planning and implementation of Infection Control programs for the clinics in keeping with established standards of the clinics and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare organizations.

  • Participate in the planning, development, and implementation of in-service education programs directly related to Infection Control for current Center staff and activities related to the new employee orientation program.

  • Ensure the establishment and maintenance of standards for Infection Control on a clinic-wide basis that ensures compliance with JCI, CBAHI, OSHA, CDC, and local MOH regulations.

  • Review and evaluate all procedures and policies related to Infection Control and provide interpretation for Head Nurses, other Departmental Managers, and Professional Staff in conjunction with Infection Control Specialist.

  • Establish, maintain and evaluate a comprehensive record system for all isolated patients and determine the prevalence of nosocomial infection every month.

  • Collaborate with the Infection Control specialist and assist in the development and revision of the Infection Control Policies and Procedures.

  • Collaborate with appropriate Administrative and Medical Staff in the maintenance of patient care standards that relate to Infection Control.

  • Initiate and participate in programs and projects which enhance the mission of Infection Control within the Diaverum Clinics.

  • Plan and prepare infection control reports on a monthly, half annual and annual basis which are submitted to the Medical Director, Infection Control Specialist and the Infection Control Committee, administration, and all required departments of Diaverum.

  • Review the Quality of environmental cleanliness regularly and report concerns to the Infection Control Coordinator and appropriate Department Head for resolution.

  • Investigate significant outbreaks of infection to identify the source of the problem and the resolution in consultation with the Infection Control Specialist and the Medical Director.

  • Ensure that the staff Comply with the standards laid down by the Approved International Accreditation Standards.

  • Identifies any occurrence not consistent with the operation of the clinic or standard of service for patients, employees, or visitors and situations that put patients, staff, or visitors at risk for injury or other harm through the chain of command.

  • Communicate and fill up any format related to infection control requested by MOH.

  • Interacts with physicians, nurses, department managers occupational health, and other professional/non-professional staff members to provide resource information, resolve infection control problems, and identify new opportunities to improve service and reduce costs.

  • Regular meetings with all clinic HNs and MDs to evaluate, improve, and solve infection issues, including root cause analysis and corrective action plans, are reported to the Head of Infection Control.

  • Follow up pre-employment health screening of the staff in the clinic.

  • Following up on staff and patients' serology and vaccination.

  • Prepare a comprehensive quarterly report of infections in the clinic and highlight the incidence and prevalence of infections and benchmark between clinics.

  • Conduct regular infection control audits to assess compliance and implement necessary improvements as needed.

  • Perform other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of his/her knowledge, skills, and abilities.

 

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or Medical Sciences or Public Health, or any related field

  • Must have completed special coursework in epidemiology, infection control or related coursework in the area of expertise

  • A recognized Professional Nursing Licensure from the country of origin

  • A Certificate Board in Infection Control is preferred

 

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years continuous working experience in Nursing preferred in dialysis of which at least 2 Years of recent direct experience in Infection Control in an acute care setting or related facility is necessary

  • For Non nurses; favorable to have 2 years of recent experience in Infection Control in an acute care setting or related facility

  • Demonstrated ability to lead infection prevention programs and effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams

 

Languages:

Fluent in Arabic and English (spoken and written)

 

IT Skills:

Computer operating experience and MS Office skills are required
